Earlier this week, I spent 48 hours making a really nice chicken broth for my husband. And then for his birthday, he requested a glazed ham. So of course, it’s completely necessary to use up the ham bone and never let it go to waste; therefore, I made no-soak beans and ham.
With 4 kids, I can’t say that it is easy for my brain to remember to soak beans ahead of time. I get that it’s the ideal way to prepare them, but i just don’t. Instead, I typically make no-soak beans in my instant pot either on the pressure cook function or on slow cook mode depending on when I need the beans.
And I am a big believer in just making it when you’re thinking about it so nothing goes to waste! This is also why I really love my Instant Pot. I can slow cook or quickly cook no matter the need.

What I included in my no soak beans
2 pounds of beans {this time my desired bean choice was pinto}
1 ham bone from my husband’s birthday celebration
1-2 cups of cubed leftover ham
1 onion, sliced
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
64 ounces of water
32 ounces broth of your choice
Salt to taste

Slow Cook Method
Because we finished cleaning up my Chris’s birthday dinner around 8 or so in the evening, I decided that I would slow cook the beans so I would not have to make another dirty dish. Plus it was a head start on the next day.
I combined all the spiced, liquids, ham, and beans in my instant pot and the put it on slow cook for ten to twelve hours. Using a crock pot, then this would be on high. In my instant pot, this is the slow cook function adjusted to the highest setting.

Pressure cooker no soak beans
The beauty of this recipe is that it turns out just as nice slow cooked for 12 hours as it does pressure cooked for 45 minutes.
